Plan to be surprised . . .

Do you ever have those days, or those situations in your life where nothing works out?  You plan something, it doesn't go through.  You want something, it doesn't happen. I wonder why I work so hard to make something happen, or make something fit into place, to see it all fall apart.  Recently I've had one of those things happen where I just want to lay in my bed and cry my eyes out.  I'm not trying to be all depressing, or all "whoa whoa is me" but it just got me thinking about my plans, and what's worked and what hasn't.

I really believe that things have a way of working out.  If something is meant to happen, it will.  That doesn't mean I can sit idly by and do nothing, but things have a way of falling into place.  Anything in my life that I've tried to force has fallen apart.  Whether it be what I should do with my life, relationships, changing my major, whatever.  You can't fit a square peg in a round hole.  I've found that things that I'm supposed to do have worked out.

Have you seen the movie "Dan in Real Life"?  If not, you should because it's great.  But I love this quote from the movie:

“I want to talk to you about the subject of plans…
life plans and how we all make them,
how we hope that our kids make good, smart, safe plans of their own.
But if we’re really honest with ourselves, most of our plans don’t work out as we’d hoped.
So instead of asking our young people, ‘What are your plans?
What do you plan to do with your life?’,
maybe we should tell them this:
Plan… to be surprised.”
