Dinner Plans

I was going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight, so I started my noodles and then went into my room to do something.  A few minutes later, I went back out there to check on them and realized I had turned on the wrong burner. "Ugh," I thought.  So, I turned off the burner that was on and went back to my room.  A few minutes later I went back out there to check on the noodles again and saw that they still weren't boiling.  Why?  Because I had forgot to turn on the right burner.  So, I turned the right burner on and then went on about my business.  Then I totally forgot about the noodles and by the time I checked on them they were a soggy mess.

At this point I gave up and ate cereal.

New Do.

On Thursday Amberly dyed my hair.  I went a couple shades darker, and it's taking some getting used to, but I think I like it.  I have been fighting the urge to chop off my hair, so I figured dying it would help me resist that urge.  It's kinda hard to tell the color in that picture, but I was trying to get the top of my head, ha.  So yeah, just thought I'd share my new hair.  Anyone know any good conditioners?  The dye dried my hair out, so I could use a good one.

Cure for a Cold

Dear Sam,

For your birthday we will give you a cold/sinus infection.  Also, a huge zit on your cheek.
You're welcome.

Love,
Your Body

That's alright.  Although a cold means a pounding head, runny/stuffy nose, and a really annoying itch in my throat that won't go away, it also means hot baths, orange juice, and Harry Potter.

I could live without the pimple though.

A Post Dedicated To: Myself.

When it's your birthday, you can dedicate posts to yourself.

Today is my birthday.  I have officially been on this earth for 24 years.  Weird.  Do you remember when you were a kid and you would imagine what life would be like when you were "old"?  I pictured I'd be all responsible and mature.  Ha.  I thought for sure I'd be married to a hot husband and have a baby by now.  I thought I'd be done with school.  None of those things have happened, but you know what, that's alright.  Life has turned out better than I could have imagined.  I am going to school for something that I know I will love (because I tried everything else in the process of getting there).  I have an amazing family who I love to hang out with (because we rock).  I have the best friends in the world (who rock).  So here's to 24 years of life.

My friend Ashley said that she was going to ask my what I've learned this past year because she's very reflective like that.  So, Ashley, here are 24 things I've learned (not necessarily in the past year):

1.  String cheese tastes better when you string it.  This is an important truth.
2.  Sometimes it's okay to not have all the answers.
3.  Your siblings really are your best friends.
4.  When Heavenly Father says no, it's because he has something better ahead.
5.  Who cares what people think (ok, still working on this one).
6.  A smile can change someones day.
7.  It's the little things
8.  I am happy when I am doing
9.  Mom's know a lot.
10.  Crying feels really good sometimes.
11.  I can't do everything, but that doesn't mean I can't do something.
12.  Heavenly Father answers my prayers.  All of them.
13.  Turning up my music full blast and singing at the top of my lungs is fun.
14.  Teaching a child something and seeing it click for them is the greatest accomplishment ever.
15.  If you're dating a guy and he doesn't make you laugh, like the laugh so hard your stomach hurts laugh, dump him.
16.  Books are amazing.
17.  It is always better to tell the truth.
18.  Climbing into a bed with freshly washed sheets is the best feeling ever.
19.  To laugh at myself.
20.  Mango's are freakin' amazing.
21.  Be nice to people and they are usually nice back.  If not, be nice anyways.
22.  Lyrics.  Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics.
23.  Whenever I am having a bad day, I can put in The Office, and I'll usually start laughing.
24.  It's okay to make mistakes.

Promoting Phonemic Awareness

Do you know what phonemic awareness is?  If I wasn't in my Literacy Methods class I wouldn't either, so don't worry.  I think I should get extra credit for my title.  I saw a few people doing this little alphabet thing and I thought it looked fun, so I joined in the fad.  Apparently I'm a follower.

Age: 23.  (But not for long)

Bed size: Full.  So much nicer than the twins I've been sleeping in.

Chores that you hate: All of them.  But especially dishes.

Dogs:  Not right now.  Well my family has two, but I want to get a weiner dog and name it Weezer.  It will be awesome.

Essential to start your day: Going to the bathroom.  Best to start the day on an empty bladder.

Favorite colorBrown.  Turquoise.  Mustard Yellow.  Grey.

Gold or silver: Silver.

Height: 5'5" ish.  I swear I used to be 5'6" but I may be shrinking.

Instruments you play: When I was younger I took piano lessons.  I wish I would have kept it up because I could be Mozart right now.  Okay, not really.

Job title: Education consultant. HA! That sounds all fancy, but believe me it's not.

Kids: Negative.

Live: In Utah.

Mothers name: Lynn Dee

Nicknames: Sam.  Shamansha.  Sanman.

Overnight hospital stays: Nope.

Pet peeves:  Being late and retarded drivers.  These things test my patience.

Quote from a movie or TV show:  "These mashed potatoes are so creamy" This is not my favorite, it was just the first one that came to my mind.  If you can name this movie you will be my best friend!

Right or lefty: Right!

Siblings:  Oldest of 8 and I wouldn't have it any other way.  5 sisters and 2 brothers and they all rock.

Time you wake up:  I'm up at 6:30 every morning.  Gross.  And because I've been waking up at that time for so long I can't sleep in anymore.

Underwear:  Yes.  I don't get what this means.

Vegetable you hate: Oh, this is easy.  PEAS!!!!

What makes you run late: Probably my alarm not going off.  I'm not late a lot because my mom believed in arriving everywhere an hour early and this is apparently genetic because I am that way too.

X-rays you've had: Arm and ankle.

Yummy food you make: I can make a pretty mean lasagna if I do say so myself.

Zoo animal: Elephants.

My roommate went out of state this weekend and it was cleaning checks.  I told her I would clean her part of the kitchen since I was doing the other half anyways, so it wasn't a big deal at all.  Today I open my bedroom door and she had got me flowers and a thank you note.  So sweet, huh?  It made my day.

Also, random thought of the day:  Did you know that if you eat popcorn unpopped it has more calories than if you eat it popped?  I looked at the box and if I eat it unpopped it's 170 calories, but popped is 35.  Does that makes sense to anyone else?  Does popping corn make calories magically disappear?  One of life's mysteries, I guess. . .

Monday. Ugh.

Monday.

That's all that needs to be said and people know the feeling.

I am determined this week will be productive.  It actually has to be because I have 1 presentation this week, 2 next week, a lesson plan due, and 2 tests.  So I either be productive or get a bad grade.  On the upside, it is getting colder outside. Yay cold weather! And I am going to Yogurtland this week with Ashley which is great because I have been craving it.  I really want to try their Pumpkin yogurt.  There is also a drive up the canyon planned for this week.  Can't wait to see the leaves! And I'm thinking about dying my hair.  I am getting so sick of it and I'm really tempted to chop it off, but I think I'll try more layers and color before I resort to scissors and inches.

Random tidbit of the day:  A couple weeks ago I got a new shirt.  And new socks.  Lovin.

Here's to this week.

Moving is overrated.

Yesterday and today was spent packing, cleaning, carry heavy boxes, unpacking, organizing, decorating, and swearing to myself that I am not moving again for a very long time.  I moved into my new apartment today, and it's so nice to have my own room again.

I am in love with my bed.  I'm a little paranoid to sit on it though because my new comforter is white, and me and white don't get along.  But I got T-shirt sheets and pretty much, my bed is heaven.

My second favorite part of my room (the first is my bed, obviously) is my closet.  Seriously, check out that storage space!  I never thought I would be this excited over storage space, ha.

I Found It!

I think I found my new bed spread.  I am moving in a month and I get a full sized bed.  (All to myself. Ya yeah!)

I am pretty excited.  The slight problem is that my bedding is for a twin bed, but it won't fit on a full bed.  Obviously.  So really, moving is just a great excuse to get some new bedding.  What do you think of this beauty?

I think I'm in love.  I'm debating between the yellow or the grey.  But leaning more towards the grey.

Ahh! Now I can't wait to move.  And decorate my room!

I finished Mockingjay today. The series was just as good the 2nd time around.

My Afternoon.

Today after working my first job, I had some free time on my hands before I had to be to my second job.  I decided to head up the canyon with a blanket and a book to soak up some sun and get some reading in.  It was so nice, I almost fell asleep.

This is my reading face.  Well, actually, I knew I was taking a picture, so it's my pretending to read face.  But it's very similar, if not identical, to my reading face.

10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Me

1. I am the oldest of 8 kids.  This means I'm good at bossing people around. Ha, just kidding.  But a little bit I am . . .
2.  I hate peas.  With a passion.  I will not eat them.  Even if they are in fried rice, I pick them out.  But, I like sugar snap peas in the pod.
3.  I don't like to drive.  I will, but if someone else wants to I'll gladly let them.
4.  Whenever I go shopping for clothes I bite my nails.  I think it's because I feel a little bad about buying yet another shirt that I really don't need.

5.  I've used the same body wash for the past 2 years, and I don't think I'll ever change.  Unless they cancel it, but that would be a very sad day.  It's the Softsoap Pomegranate & Mango.  I could eat myself.
 6.  I once sprained one ankle and broke the other one at the same time.  That's a talented klutz.  It wasn't even a cool story.  I was just a klutz.
 7.  My favorite Disney princess/movie used to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid but now it's Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
 8. My favorite smell is clean clothes.  I always put a little extra soap in the wash to get the smell stronger.
 9.  I prefer cold weather over warm weather.  I could rather be cold then hot.  You can only take so much off . . .
10.  I do not own any pink clothing.  I have a couple shirts that have a little pink in them, but nothing that is pink.

New Shades and New Read

Got me some new shades today.  I sat on my last pair of glasses and they sat lopsided on my face.  I'm always breaking my glasses, so I got a couple of cheap pairs at Forever 21.  I love that place.  $1.50 for a pair of glasses.  I got a turquoise blue and gray.

I finished The Catcher in the Rye today.

My mom has been trying to get me to read this book ever since she started the series, so my new current read is "The Brothers" by Chris Stewart.

Oh, and I noticed I got a couple more followers :) Thanks!

Tandem Adventures and New Books.

Ashley and I decided to rent a tandem bike and ride it around yesterday.  It was quite the experience, and we may have almost crashed.  Multiple times.  I'm sure there were lots of people laughing at us, because we probably looked pretty comical.  And everytime we would pass a boy, Ashley would yell, "OHHH HEEEEEEEYY!"

If you are dating someone and you want to see if they are someone you want to marry, go on a tandem bikeride.  This is a good test, I'm tellin ya.

After that we went to Malawi's where I ate an entire pizza by myself (don't judge).  I got the Pesto Artichoke Chicken Pizza. Mmmmmm.

Then we walked around Borders (oh how I love bookstores) where I found a freakin sweet deal!  They had an Art Book (hardcover, huge, colorful, history of art) for $9.99.  Did I jump on that deal?  Yes I did.  It is an art history book that includes the major pictures from each era.  So excited!  I also got "Catcher in the Rye".  I always feel bad buying new books at new bookstores because they are so dang expensive, but every once in a while they have a good deal.  Used is the way to go, my friends.

Weekends always go by way too fast.

yada yada yada

Is it really only Tuesday?  Doesn't it feel like this week should be over already? I think it does.  Last week was spring break and it went by really fast so I think time is making up for it by going super slow this week.  Or maybe it feels really long because I have a ton to get done.  Lesson plans, digital videos, field assignments.  But instead of doing any of that I'm blogging and looking at quotes by C.S. Lewis.  Clearly this is more important because look at this great quote I found.

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

C. S. Lewis

Also, I'm in love with these pictures Ashley took of me.  So I'm just going to post some more.

Today

So today my friend Ashley, who is an amazing photographer, took my pictures.  It was really random, spur of the moment, and way fun.  Except for the fact that it was super windy, but that's alright.  Here are a couple of them from today, and I'll put more on later.

You can check out her photography blog here.

Don't I look like a teacher in that second one?  With the books and all.  Oh, and today was my first day of my field experience and it was SO GOOD!  It just reminded me why I want to go into teaching.  It's definitely my niche as far as a career goes.  I am really excited for these next three weeks.

Debating

So for the past little bit I have been trying to grow my hair out.  The only thing is I am getting sick of it.  Well, bored of it.  And I have really been contemplating cutting it short again.  I usually have my hair short, so that's why I wanted to try it long.  And I always see people with long, gorgeous hair and I want it, but then I see people with short hair, and I want to chop mine.

So what should I do?

VS.

It's probably hard to tell on some of these, but you get the general idea.

Yes, I make Office references in every day life.

I love The Office.  I am addicted. I admit it.  I watch the show just about every night before I go to bed.  Because I love it.  Someone asked me how many times I'd watched all the season, and I have no idea, but I'm sure it's a lot.  My old roommates would always tease me that I would quote lines from The Office all the time, or they would tell me something and I would say, "It's like in The Office when . . ." and then go on to tell something that happened in the show.  A lot of my Facebook statuses are Office quotes.  But there are so many good quotes.  So this post is dedicated entirely to The Office.  No, I am not watching this as I type this, but yes, I do wish I were :)

Jim Halpert: Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galatica

Dwight Schrute: Through simple concentration I can both raise and lower my cholesterol.
Pam Beesly: Why would you raise your cholesterol?
Dwight Schrute: So I can lower it.

Michael Scott: Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Phyllis: Does everyone know my boyfriend, Bob Vance?
Kevin: Kevin Malone.
Bob: Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
Stanley: Stanley Hudson.
Bob: Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
Ryan: Ryan Howard.
Bob: Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration.
[pause]
Ryan: What line of work you in, Bob?

Dwight: Michael always says "K-I-S-S. Keep it simple, stupid." Great advice. Hurts my feelings every time.

(very, very bad recording but it's the best YouTube had.)

Girl: I found the needle in the hay stack!
Dwight Schrute: Hey congratulations! Do you know what your prize is?
Girl: I dunno.
Dwight Schrute: Nothing. Life lesson, some tasks are not worth doing.

Michael Scott: I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself.

Dwight Schrute: I.D. badges are long overdue. Security in this office park is a joke. Last year, I came to work with my spud gun in a duffel bag. I sat at my desk all day, with a rifle that shoots potatoes at 60 pounds per square inch. Can you imagine if I was deranged?

Michael Scott: I love inside jokes. I'd love to be a part of one someday.

Dwight Schrute: Why tip someone for a job I’m capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

Michael Scott: Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh I donno, I sing in the shower? Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car.

Dwight Schrute: No, don't call me a hero. Do you know who the real heroes are? The guys who wake up every morning and go into their normal jobs and get a distress call from the commissioner and take off their glasses and change into capes and fly around, fighting crime. Those are the real heroes.

Michael Scott: “My philosophy is basically this. And this is something that I live by. And I always have. And I always will. Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what. No matter ... where. Or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or ... or where you've been ... ever. For any reason, whatsoever.”

Does this make you just want to go watch The Office?  I do.

8 Things

8 things I'm loving right now.

1. This CD.  It's Death to False Metal from Weezer.  It's all their unreleased songs from over the years.  It's pretty awesome.  My favorite is Odd Couple.  And they do an awesome remake of "Unbreak My Heart" originally by Toni Braxton.

2. The fact that it's almost Christmas.  I love seeing all the lights on everyone's houses.  I haven't gone up to see the lights at Temple Square yet, but I'm hoping to before Christmas.  Christmas isn't complete unless you've seen the lights.

 3. This stuff is a life saver.  Seriously, my lips would probably be falling off if it weren't for Burt.

4.  I've been doing my hair curly with my flat iron lately, and I'm really liking it. It's so much faster than straightening it.  Which you wouldn't think it was, but it is.

 5. This book.  The Picture of Dorian Gray.  It's in my {Current Reads} section, but it's taken me awhile with finals to finish.  Now that it's the break and I don't have to study my brains out I might actually get some reading done.  This book really is amazing though.  I'm not gonna lie, it's kinda hard to get through just because the language is a little bit different from today's writing, but it's so worth it.  So many great quotes and things to think about.

6. Inception! Ok, I know I've mentioned this movie many times before, but I seriously can't get over how amazing and brilliant this movie is.

7.  The fact that FINALS ARE OVER on Friday.  I can't wait.  And this cartoon pretty much explains how I feel right about now.  But I do have to say that I created a freakin awesome WebQuest about the weather.  It's pretty sweet.

8. When I get home tonight, BRIAR WILL BE HOME!! And I get to spend the next three weeks with her.
